Daughtry Concert - Target Center - Minneapolis, MN

Let me start this review with a disclaimer. Before this concert I had never listened to a Daughtry song. I never liked A.I. or anything in association with it. I took my god son to this concert as a birthday present, because Daughtry is one of his favorite bands.

On with the concert review.

Opening up for Daughtry was Cavo and Lifehouse. There is not much to say about either of these bands. Cavo needs to get some more time in and the lead singer needs to quit holding back the rest of the band. This was the second time I saw Lifehouse, once at a fest and now in an arena. They need to stick to the arenas, much better sound and performance.

Daughtry

He opened up with Everytime You Turn Around, which was a surprise sound coming from him for me. Having heard only bits of his more popular music I was expecting a very light pop type sound. This was NOT pop. The drums lead the way and great guitar play helped make me sit up and pay attention. This continued through his songs What I Want, Ghost of Me, and No Surprise.

Things started to slow down with Life After You and It's Not Over. Both very powerful ballads and impressive live. The most impressive song was when Daughtry came out on the cat walk and did a cover of Phil Collin's In the Air Tonight. The sound was amazing and if anyone had their eyes closed they would have thought they were listening to Phil Collins.

After In the Air Tonight I zoned out a little through the last four songs of the set (since it was a Wednesday night show, I had been up since 5 am for work and it was close to 11pm.) When he came back out for the encore I was ready for the show to be over until He did a cover of Billy Idol's Rebel Yell, that woke me back up and ready to party. Home and There and Back Again were his two closing songs and very good.

Overall I was impressed by the concert having never heard most of his songs before I was surprised by the Rock feel to the concert. I now have several of his songs on my playlist and find they match up well in the same playlists as A7X and Metallica.

I would recommend seeing his concert.
